Trains, coaches, ferries and drives: Boarding, Disembarking and the arrival reminder

Give a stop the Type Train, Bus / Coach, Ferry / Boat or Drive / Car and an arrival time, and it gets a Disembarking stop for unloading. With bags assigned, your iPhone reminds you ten minutes before arrival not to leave them on board.

A journey by train, coach, ferry or road has two moments that matter for the gear: loading it on and getting it all off again. Luggage Logger splits such a stop into Boarding (the stop itself, at departure) and Disembarking (a second stop at arrival), so you can log the bags on and then count them off.

iPhone app

On the iPhone app

  1. Open the day's Schedule and tap the green +.
  2. Type a Name, set Start Time (departure) and End Time (arrival), and under Travel Details set Type to Train, Bus / Coach, Ferry / Boat or Drive / Car.
  3. A train can take a Train Operator; a coach or drive can take Vehicle Details; a Booking Reference fits most. Tap Create.
  4. A Disembarking stop is added at the arrival time. It isn't listed as a row: tap the journey to expand it, and under Log tap Boarding or Disembarking to open that phase's Logger, each with its logged count.

The reminder:

  • About ten minutes before arrival (five minutes on a hop under twenty minutes), a notification titled "Don't forget your luggage" says, for example, "Your train arrives at <the stop's location> in 10 minutes - grab your bags." (a coach reads "Your bus", a ferry "Your ferry", and a drive just "Arriving at … in 10 minutes"). Tap it to open the Logger at the journey.
  • It's automatic, with nothing to mark: every train, coach, ferry or drive stop that has an arrival time and at least one asset assigned to it gets one.

Website

On the website

The same stop sheet and the same Boarding / Disembarking phases. With no arrival time the sheet notes "Add an arrival time to get a Disembarking stop for unloading." The website doesn't send the arrival reminder.
