Add each case, rack, bag and piece of kit once; packs and trips reuse it. Only the Name is required. Everything else can be filled in later with Edit Asset.
iPhone app
On the iPhone app
- On the Assets page, tap the green + at the bottom right. If you're looking at a profile, the new asset goes into that profile (and into the folder you have open).
- The New Asset sheet opens with the keyboard ready on Name. Type the name.
- Choose Item or Case on the switch below the name. An item is "an inventory item that can be packed into cases"; a case is "a container or luggage".
- Add a photo with Take Photo or Photo Library. Tap the photo afterwards to retake or replace it.
- Details: Brand, Model and Quantity (1 to 50). A quantity above 1 makes that many separate assets, all sharing the photo and details.
- Profiles: tap Select Profiles to tick the profiles it belongs in, then Done.
- Category: a category is suggested from the name ("Suggested from its name. Tap to pick another."). Tap the row to pick one from the tiles.
- Tags: tap Add Tags to tick tags or type a new one; search finds these.
- For a case, Case Details: Case Number and Luggage Type (Cabin or Hold). For an item, Identification: Serial Number and Owner.
- Dimensions & Weight: Length, Width, Height and Weight, in the units from Settings.
- Find My: the item's name in the Find My app, if it has a tracker.
- Value: Currency and Value. With Show Advanced Features on, On Carnet adds Customs Description and Country of Origin.
- Notes, and for an item, Private (only you see it).
- Tap Create at the top right. The X at the top left discards it.
Website
On the website
- On the Assets page, tap New Asset (top right on a computer) or the green + (bottom right on a phone).
- The form has the same sections in the same order. For the photo, a phone offers Take Photo and Photo Library; a computer offers Choose Photo ("or drop one here").
- Type tags and press Enter (or a comma) to add each one.
- Tap Create. Cmd+Enter (Ctrl+Enter) also saves.
- Adding lots at once on a computer: at the bottom of the form, Adding lots at once? Use the multi-row form. The New Assets sheet has one row per asset (name, Item or Case, tags, quantity, weight, value); Add row adds more and Save All creates them all, each with the category suggested from its name.
Good to know
- The asset belongs to you. Other members see it in the profiles you put it in; the Members filter shows whose is whose.
- Where it lands: the profile you were in, filed in the open folder. If you weren't in a folder and the profile has a top-level folder named after the asset's category (or Cases for a case), it's filed there automatically; otherwise it sits at the top level.
- Offline on the iPhone, the asset saves at once and syncs when you're back online. A photo shows straight away and uploads in the background.
- From 1.0.1 the name comes first, then Item or Case, then the photo, and the keyboard is ready on the name.
- A CSV import (Pro) adds many assets from a spreadsheet: see CSV import and export (Pro).
