Each asset has one Category from a shared list (each industry offers eighteen, a 3 by 6 grid): Audio, Backline, Lighting, Video, Cameras, Cables, Power, Computers and IT, Stands and Rigging, Clothing, Toiletries, Cases and Luggage, Tools and Spares, Supplies, Personal, Other and more. Supplies are items only and live in their profile's Supplies folder (see Supplies in packs). A case starts as Cases and Luggage; an item with no category shows as Other. The category reads the same in every profile, and the Categories filter and the website sidebar count by it.
iPhone app
On the iPhone app
When you add or edit an asset: the Category row shows a suggestion made from the name, brand, model and tags ("Suggested from its name. Tap to pick another."). Tap the row and pick a tile; the current one is ticked.
Change one asset: press and hold its tile and choose Change Category, then tap a tile. It's offered on assets you can edit: your own, and items in a profile you edit (someone else's case is theirs to change).
Change many at once:
- Press and hold a tile and choose Select Multiple, then tick the assets (or Select All at the top right).
- Tap Category in the bar at the bottom.
- Pick a tile on the Set Category sheet ("For all 12 selected assets you can edit").
Set the profile's industry: tap the profile button (top left), press and hold the profile, then open Industry: … and choose Touring and Live Music, Events and AV, Theatre, Film and TV, Photography, Personal and Travel, Education, Sport or Outdoor and Expeditions. Owners and admins can change it.
Website
On the website
- The Category row on the asset form, Change Category in a tile's ··· menu and Select then Category work as on the iPhone.
- Industry: open the profile picker, press and hold (or use the ··· of) the profile, and choose Industry: ….
Good to know
- The industry only changes which categories are offered and suggested (a touring profile offers Backline and Merch; a personal profile offers Toiletries and Kids). An asset keeps whatever category it already has, and that category is still offered when you edit it.
- A new profile is Touring and Live Music until you change it. Outside a profile (All Assets), the touring list is offered.
- Categories replaced the old free-text categories, which are now Tags: search terms you can add to an item (Add Tags).
- A new asset filed by category: if the profile has a top-level folder named after the category, the asset goes into it automatically.
- In bulk, only assets you can edit change; on the website the message says how many were left as they were.
