Search the whole app (Smart Search, ⌘K and Spotlight)

On the iPhone, tap the magnifying glass with the sparkle at the top right of Home to search assets, cases, packs, trips, stops, crew names and profiles at once; tapping a result opens it. On the website, press Search in the sidebar or ⌘K / Ctrl+K. The iPhone's own Spotlight search finds your assets too.

Smart Search looks across everything you can see in Luggage Logger at once, instead of one page's list. On the iPhone it's the magnifying glass with the small blue sparkle at the top right of Home; on the website it's the Search button or ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows).

iPhone app

On the iPhone app

  1. On Home, tap the magnifying glass with the sparkle at the top right. A sheet titled Search opens with the keyboard up: "Search for anything across the whole app".
  2. Type a name, brand, serial number, place or crew member. Results appear as you type, grouped under Profiles, Trips, Stops, Packs, Cases, Assets and Crew (up to eight each), with a photo or coloured icon and a line of detail.
  3. Tap a result: a profile opens its Home; an asset or case opens its card on the Assets page; a pack opens on the Packs page; a trip opens on its Dates; a stop opens its day's Schedule; a crew name opens the Home of the profile it was found in.
  4. A pack or profile you archived carries an Archived badge; tapping it asks "… is archived", with Bring it back or Keep hidden. The X at the top left closes the sheet.

It looks through names, brands, models, serial numbers, notes, places, members, descriptions and the folders an asset is filed in. Other people's private items never appear, and everything is searched on the phone, so it works offline.

With Apple Intelligence the field says "Powered by Apple Intelligence · on-device" and you can ask in plain words ("which pack is Sam running"); it works out the names and kinds you mean. Without it, search matches the words you type; if Apple Intelligence is switched off, a line says "Turn on Apple Intelligence in Settings for natural-language search".

From the iPhone's own search (Spotlight): swipe down on the Home Screen and type an asset's name. Luggage Logger lists it as Case or Asset with its brand and serial number, and tapping it opens the app on that asset's card. Only assets are listed there, never other people's private items; the list updates a few seconds after you add, edit or delete an asset, and is cleared when you sign out.

Website

On the website

  1. On a computer, press Search at the top of the sidebar (it shows ⌘K), or press ⌘K on a Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows anywhere in the app. At tablet width it's the magnifying glass under the profile circle in the left rail; on a phone, the round magnifying glass at the top right of the bar.
  2. A box opens in the middle of the screen: "Search assets, packs, trips, stops, events, orgs, projects…". Results appear as you type (up to 50), each with its kind on the right; "org" means a profile and "event" a stand-alone calendar date.
  3. Press ↑ and ↓ to move through the list, Enter to open the highlighted result and Esc to close, or click a result.
  4. An asset opens on the Assets page with its card open; a pack opens on the Packs page; a trip opens, or opens at that stop; an event takes you to the Calendar; a profile opens its Home.

The website matches your words anywhere in a name, brand, model, serial number, notes, place, flight number or members. It has no Apple Intelligence.

Good to know

  • The Assets page has its own search bar that filters that page as you type (see Find assets: search, and the Categories and Members filters); Smart Search is for finding things wherever they are.
  • Results come from what's already on your phone or loaded in the browser, so something shared with you a moment ago appears once the app has refreshed.
