Notifications aren't arriving

On the iPhone, allow notifications for Luggage Logger in the iPhone's Settings app, then check the app's own Logging Activity and Manage Notifications switches. Reminders fire from the time on the Stop, so an out-of-date Stop means a mistimed reminder. On the website, notifications need your permission in the browser, and on an iPhone the website has to be on your Home Screen.

Every iPhone notification is made on the phone from your trips, so the usual causes are a permission that was never given, a switch that's off, or a Stop whose time doesn't match what happened.

iPhone app

On the iPhone app

  1. Allow notifications: open the iPhone's Settings app, Notifications, Luggage Logger, and turn on Allow Notifications with banners and sounds. The app asks when it first opens; if you said no then, this is the fix.
  2. Check the app's switches: profile button, Settings, then under Notifications: Logging Activity on (for "all logged"), and in Manage Notifications the switch for the Profile the trip belongs to.
  3. Check Focus and Do Not Disturb on the iPhone; a Focus can silence the app.
  4. Check the Stop:
    • A hand luggage reminder fires at the flight's landing time, for hand luggage you flagged on a flight Stop. No flag, no reminder.
    • The luggage reminder for a train, coach, ferry or drive needs an arrival time on the Stop and at least one asset assigned to it, and it comes 10 minutes before arrival (5 on a short hop). If you're already inside that window when you set things up, it won't fire.
    • A stop reminder you set fires before the Stop's start time. If the Stop was moved (by you, a crew member or a Master Tour sync), the reminder moves with it.
    • If the service was delayed and the Stop still shows the planned time, the reminder came at the planned time.
  5. Open the app once. Reminders are rescheduled when the app opens a trip's Logger or comes to the foreground, which also picks up flags and reminders made on another device.
  6. "All logged" never shows? It's sent to the people on the trip when the last case is logged, only while the app is allowed to notify, and only when the phone can hear about other people's logs (so not offline).

Website

On the website

  1. Notifications on this device in Settings must be on, and the browser must have allowed notifications for luggagelogger.com. If the switch says they're blocked, allow them in the browser's site settings and try again.
  2. On an iPhone or iPad, the website can only notify once it's added to the Home Screen (Share, then Add to Home Screen) and turned on from there. Or use the iPhone app.
  3. The website sends service notices (and news if you've opted in), not the luggage and stop reminders; those come from the iPhone app. A stop reminder set on the website fires on your iPhone.

Good to know

  • Notifications are per device: a flag or reminder you set on your iPhone fires on that iPhone.
  • Reinstalling the app resets its notification permission; iOS asks again.
